Can Braces Actually Be Discreet?

fort worth discreet bracesIf you have crooked or crowded teeth, or teeth that overlap one another, then you could be uncomfortable with the appearance of your smile, and your oral health could be at risk. To correct your uneven teeth, you may need braces. But before you groan or roll your eyes, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist would like to talk about our discreet braces, made possible with ceramic braces.

How Braces Correct Uneven Teeth

Braces are an excellent way to correct more severe cases of dental misalignment. We start the process by placing brackets onto the front facing sides of each tooth. We then attach a portion of an arch wire to each bracket using a band. During periodic visits to our office, our team will adjust the tension in the arch wire. As we do, the teeth begin to shift into different positions, gradually correcting misalignment. Over time, the bone tissue and gums reform around these new positions as you come closer and closer toward an even and beautiful smile. For some, it could take up to two years to see optimal results, but we also have Propel® Accelerated Orthodontics to help limit the overall treatment times too.

Creating Brackets with Ceramic

Typically, the brackets would be made from metal. However! Our team can instead craft each one using a tooth-colored ceramic material. A translucent and stain-resistant material ceramic can be tinted to blend with the surrounding tooth structure. In fact, many dentists use it to create restorations like crowns, or even aid in tooth replacement with bridges or implant restorations due to the material’s durability and lifelike appearance. We then use clear bands to attach an arch wire, so we significantly reduce the appearance of your orthodontics!

The Benefits of an Even Smile

Remember, an even smile is much easier to brush and floss thoroughly, and doesn’t provide places for food particles to become trapped and left for consumption by bacteria. As a result, the overall risk of tooth decay and gum disease is lowered. An even smile also ensures better bite balance, again reducing the risk of complications, including TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding). If you have any questions about our tooth-colored ceramic brackets, or about any of our other treatment options, then contact our team today. We offer care for kids, teens, and adults in the Fort Worth area and in surrounding communities.
