How Will Imaging Technology Improve Your Misalignment?

designing orthodonticsWe believe in embracing advanced technology to offer our patients results with greater accuracy and precision, and often in shorter time periods. In today’s blog, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist is going to look specifically at how we use imaging technology to design custom orthodontics, such as Invisalign® aligners or tooth-colored ceramic brackets.

Examining Your Smile

First, we need to take a close look at your smile. We will use digital technology, including the I-CAT system, to obtain detailed images of your smile, allowing us to assess the cause and severity of your misalignment. This information is key to prescribing the right solutions for your smile. Remember, correcting poor alignment is linked not only to greater confidence and a more attractive smile, but improved overall oral health too. Patients enjoy a reduced risk of tooth decay, gum disease, TMJ disorder, teeth grinding, and more.

Designing Your Orthodontics

With the iTero® system, we use a small camera at the end of a thin wand to obtain a number of detailed images quickly. We then combine these images to create a detailed 3D model of your smile. The model allows us to design orthodontics and oral appliances to correct issues like dental misalignment and even TMJ disorder. We create these devices with precision and accuracy, which ensures better treatment and a comfortable fit throughout the process. We may create a series of clear aligners to correct the teeth for teens and adults, known as the Invisalign® system. Our team could also design TMJ appliances to address the jaw joint strain that causes headaches, bite imbalance, and a popping sensation in the jaw. Finally, if you need braces, we design ceramic brackets that will be tooth-colored and blend with your smile.

Replacing Outdated Methods

At one time, the process of designing your orthodontics meant you bit down on a mold tray filled with a sticky material. The material of course would have flavors, not that they were ever particularly enjoyable. This process often had to be repeated to obtain a good mold, and even then the results would not be as accurate as those offered with digital technology. If you have any questions about treating misalignment, or about how we employ digital technology to diagnose your misalignment and provide the best treatment option, then contact our team today.
