Invisalign® is a unique procedure, one that doesn’t require patients to wear braces at all. Instead your smile will be corrected with a series of cozy and practically invisible aligners. In today’s blog, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist looks at what our patients should expect from this treatment process, and how they can get started on the road toward an even smile!
The First Appointment
During your initial visit, we will use advanced digital technology to take detailed images of your smile and provide a careful examination. We will then be able to assess the cause and extent of your misalignment, and choose the best treatment option to correct your crooked, crowded, and overlapping teeth. If we choose Invisalign® for your smile, we will then begin creating your aligners!
Creating Your Aligners
Our team will use digital images to create a detailed 3D model, allowing us to design and fabricate the a series of aligners with precision and accuracy. We will then provide you with a series of aligners, along with detailed instructions for daily care and use, such as when to clean and soak them.
Wearing Them Each Day
Each day, patients will wear them for about 20 to 22 hours, depending on the orthodontist’s exact recommendations. A set is usually worn for a period of two weeks before the patient upgrades to the next in the series. While they need to be worn as prescribed, you still have opportunities to remove them. For example, you take them out before you eat, so you don’t need to avoid meals or worry about items being stuck in your orthodontics. You also remove them before you brush and floss each day, which makes thorough care much easier and limits the risk of teeth stains, tooth decay, and periodontal issues during the treatment period. You may also be able to take them out before special occasions, such as dates or graduations.
How Long Does the Process Take?
Over all, teens usually need about 18 months to see optimal results, and adults tend to see a straighter smile in as little as one year. The treatment period will require fewer office visits than braces usually need, adding more convenience. If you have any questions about how we treat misalignment or about the Invisalign® system in particular, then contact our team today.
