When we have crooked, crowded, or overlapping teeth, this could lead to complications for our oral health. By correcting misalignment, you not only improve smile beauty, but boost your overall oral health too. In today’s blog, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist explains how we help correct smiles and better your oral health with clear braces using the Invisalign® system.
Choosing Your Cosmetic Orthodontic Option
Uneven teeth often provide place for food particles to become trapped, places you may not be able to reach when you brush and floss each day! Over time, this allows bacteria to break down these particles, increasing the risk of common issues like tooth decay and gum disease. Misalignment could also be caused by, or result in, jaw joint strain, which in turn leads to a higher risk of TMJ disorder and bruxism (chronic teeth grinding).
To avoid poorer oral health, consider seeing us for orthodontic treatment. We start by carefully examining your smile with advanced technology, enabling us to assess the factors behind your misalignment, and choose the treatment option that works best for your smile. For many, we may suggest clear braces with the Invisalign® system.
Invisalign® Clear Braces
With this option, we use detailed digital images we take of your smile to design and create a series of aligners made from a clear, BPA-free plastic material. Each set is worn for about two weeks, with patients moving on the next set afterwards. Each day, they should be worn for between 20 and 22 hours on average. Over a period of about a year for adults and around 18 months for teens, these aligners help reposition the teeth and correct misalignment, all while remaining practically invisible!
What About Metal Braces?
Occasionally, we may see a patient with misalignment too severe for clear aligners to address. For them, metal braces may still be the best route to an even smile. However! We still have options to limit visibility. For example, instead of using metal brackets attached to the teeth, we affix ceramic ones that blend with the tooth. Only the thin arch wire is metal, which significantly limits the appearance of the orthodontics. If you have any questions about treating misalignment, or about our cosmetic approach, then please contact our team today. We would love to help you enjoy a straighter and more attractive smile!
