Braces typically need metal brackets and wires to help reposition teeth and improve smile beauty (and health). However, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist has a more cosmetic alternative. Instead of metal, we create brackets from ceramic, which are tinted to blend with your smile. In today’s blog, we’re going to look at how we create these natural-looking orthodontic brackets.
Treating Misalignment With Cosmetic Braces
When we have teeth that are crooked, crowded, or overlap one another, this could cause pressure that leads to issues like TMJ disorder or bruxism (teeth grinding). You could also be more vulnerable to tooth decay and gum disease, and may feel embarrassment about your smile’s appearance. However, braces help correct the position of your teeth to prevent complications and improve alignment in as little as 18 months to 2 years on average.
We start by attaching a bracket to the front-facing side of each tooth. We then attach an arch wire to the bracket and a band. During periodic visits, we will adjust tension in the wire to reposition the teeth and help correct the alignment of the teeth. To shorten the overall treatment process, we may also send you home with a Propel® Accelerated Orthodontic device, which uses vibrations to allow jawbone tissue and gums to reform around the teeth’s new positions quicker.
Crafting Your Custom Brackets
The key to reduced visibility is the ceramic brackets. We use iTero® digital scanning technology to take detailed images of your smile, using them to design and fabricate a series of brackets from ceramic. Not only is this material durable, but ceramic is also translucent like tooth enamel, and can be tinted to blend with the color of surrounding tooth structure. When we attach them to your teeth, they will be barely visibility, so the only metal visible is the very thin arch wire.
Benefits of an Even Smile
We want you to feel proud and confident when you smile. Don’t hide your smile in pictures or when in public, instead let your smile be a boost to your self-confidence. We also want to you enjoy better oral health by reducing the risk of serious complications associated with poor alignment, such as increased risks of cavities and periodontal troubles, or possibly painful jaw joint disorders.
