If you need to wear braces to correct your crooked, crowded, and overlapping teeth, you may feel uncomfortable with the idea of metal orthodontics. Your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist understands, and offers our patients an alternative that blends with the smile. In today’s blog, we’re going to talk about the tooth-colored brackets we use to minimize the appearance of braces!
Fixing Uneven Teeth With Braces
How do braces offer help with misalignment? Well, we start by attaching brackets to the front-facing sides of the teeth. Then, a very thin arch wire is attached to the brackets using a band. During periodic visits with your orthodontist, we will adjust the tension in the wire to begin moving the teeth into optimal positions, correcting misalignment. By addressing your uneven teeth, we help lower the risks of complications typically associated with poor alignment, including tooth decay, gum disease, TMJ disorder, and chronic teeth grinding (bruxism).
Creating Your Ceramic Brackets
For a cosmetic alternative, we don’t use metal to craft the brackets placed onto your teeth. Instead, we opt for ceramic. Dentists often use ceramic to create crowns and other questions because this material is translucent like tooth enamel, and can be tinted to blend with surrounding teeth. For these reasons, we craft the brackets from ceramic and then shade them to match the rest of the tooth. To design them, we take digital images of your smile with the iTero® scanning system. We then use the images to craft the new brackets, which provides a more accurate and proper fit, and means you don’t need to bite down on a mold filled with a sticky material any longer!
Other Cosmetic Treatment Options
We’re not limited to this option either! For teens and adults, we may also be able to prescribe the Invisalign® system, which doesn’t need brackets or wires at all. Instead, we create a series of clear and cozy aligners that you wear daily, upgrading to a new set every two weeks, to see a straighter smile in as little as one year for many patients. If you have any questions about our tooth-colored brackets, or about our clear Invisalign® aligners, then contact our team today. We would love to work with you and help you on your journey to a healthier and more beautiful smile!
