Your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist helps people in our community obtain straighter teeth with orthodontics, like braces and aligners. However, our team takes steps to ensure your treatment not only corrects your misalignment, but does so with limited visibility. In today’s blog, we’re going to talk about tooth-colored ceramic brackets and clear Invisalign® aligners.
Invisalign® Aligners
Also known as invisible braces, the Invisalign® system doesn’t rely on metal braces at all to correct misalignment. Instead, the patient wears a series of clear aligners that gently shift the teeth into optimal positions over the course of about a year for adults, and 18 months for teens. Each set is worn for about two weeks before the patients upgrades to the next, and they need to be worn 20 to 22 hours a day in order to be effective. However, you can remove them prior to meals or before brushing and flossing, which means not avoiding certain foods, and keeping your smile healthy and free of stains, decay, and gum disease during treatment is much easier!
Tooth-Colored Brackets
For more substantial cases of misalignment, braces may still be the best option. We place brackets onto the front facing sides of the teeth, and then attach an arch wire to them with a band. The orthodontist then adjust tension in the wire during periodic visits, to begin shifting the teeth into position. Instead of using metal for the brackets, we create them from ceramic, which can be shaded to blend with the smile and limit the appearance of braces. To shorten the amount of time you need to wear braces, we may suggest the Propel® Accelerated Orthodontics system, which allows gum and bone tissue to reform around the teeth faster, shortening overall treatment time.
How Do I Get Started?
Everything starts with an initial exam. We take a detailed look at your smile using the I-Cat and iTero® systems, diagnosing the cause and extent of your misalignment with accuracy and precision. From there, we can decide which option works best for your smile. Remember, correcting misalignment not only improves smile beauty, but also limits the risk of complications, like tooth decay, gum disease, TMJ disorder, and even bruxism (teeth grinding).
