How Do We Ensure Your Orthodontics Fit Comfortably?

technology to create alignersFor teens and adults, we may correct misalignment with clear Invisalign® aligners. We also have appliances to treat TMJ disorder, and even retainers for children in need of orthodontic care. But how do we ensure these appliances fit comfortably, while still addressing your misalignment and jaw joint strain? In today’s blog, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist explains how we use technology to treat your smile!

Using iTero® Digital Scanning

At one time, creating orthodontics and appliances meant taking physical impressions of your teeth. The process involved filling a mold with a sticky material, and then biting down and holding this for several minutes. Often, the process had to be repeated and the material, despite having various flavors available, never tasted good. Fortunately, we’ve gone digital! Now, we use the iTero® digital scanning system. Using a small camera at the end of a thin wand, we take a series of images quickly and comfortably. We then combine them to create detailed 3D model of your smile. The model is then used to create an impression with greater accuracy and precision.

Adjustments and Follow-Up Visits

We often use the technology to create the clear acrylic aligners the Invisalign® system employs, or to craft retainers for children. We also create the oral appliances that help ease jaw joints strain and bite imbalance to treat TMJ disorder. After we create the appliances or aligners, we will check the fit and if necessary, make any adjustments to ensure optimal fit and treatment. We will continue to monitor your smile and oral health in follow-up visits periodically.
