Diagnostics And Planning With Digital Technology

orthodontic technologyEvery smile is different, and while we may use metal braces or clear aligners to treat people, we always take steps to customize these options for your smile. To do this, and choose the best option for correcting misalignment, we often use digital technology to plan your treatment and even design your appliances and orthodontics. In today’s blog, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist talks about how we use I-Cat and iTero digital systems!

When Do You Need Orthodontics?

Whether you have minor or more severe cases of misalignment, then you may need treatment as uneven teeth are liked to poorer oral health, and could impact how someone feels about their smile. For example, food particles may become trapped between teeth and could be difficult to remove with brushing and flossing, increasing the risk of issues like tooth decay and gum disease. Pressure on the jaw joints could also be an issue, as this elevates the chances of TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding), two serious jaw joint disorders that could cause pain and even damaged teeth! We offer treatment for children as young as age seven, and also have options for teens and adults as well. No matter your age, we’re ready to help you enjoy better oral health and a more attractive smile.

Planning Your Treatment with I-Cat

The I-Cat system uses computerized tomography to offer our team an incredibly detailed look at your smile, allowing us to see the teeth, roots, and oral appliances in clear digital images. We then target specific areas of the smile to learn more about the factors behind your misalignment, and what will be needed to correct the position of your teeth. We then diagnose your smile and plan your treatment process with accuracy and precision! For children, we may suggest phased orthodontics, such as teeth spacers and retainers, and for teens and adults, we may opt for braces with tooth-colored brackets and clear Invisalign® aligners.

iTero Digital Scanning

We also use the iTero® digital scanning system to replace traditional impressions, so we create a digital alternative to design your orthodontics with greater precision. We use iTero® to help create aligners, retainers, and even the ceramic brackets used to limit the visibility of braces.
