Improving Your Child’s Dental Alignment

children's orthodontics Did you know that your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist offers care for children in our community? Parents are often surprised to learn that we can begin correcting misalignment and other issues with bite balance in childhood. In today’s blog, we’re going to talk about how we improve alignment, and what benefits this offers for kids as they grow!

The Importance of Early Treatment

Children are still growing, and so is their smile. Which means treatment in the early ages could begin to guide the growth and development of the teeth, jaw, and oral structures. Over time, these treatments help reduce the severity of poor alignment, so in their teen and adult years the time they will need to wear orthodontics could be much shorter. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends an initial checkup at around age seven, as your child will have a mix of baby teeth and permanent teeth, which allows to orthodontist to assess whether the teeth are erupting properly and whether there is need for treatment to begin correcting developing misalignment. If your child is aged seven, or shows the warning signs of misalignment, then please contact our team for a thorough exam!

Retainers and Other Phased Orthodontics

We will employ advanced imaging technology to assess the cause and extent of your kid’s misalignment. From there, we can craft a personalized treatment plan to correct the issue. We often used phased orthodontics, which begin reducing the severity of misalignment. Treatment includes the use of retainers, teeth spacers, and for some kids, even braces. The use of iTero® digital scanning technology means we can create an appliance with accuracy and precision.

Treatment for Teens

Once your little one reaches their teen years, the smile is entering the end of this growth and development. Now, we can start the final phase of correcting misalignment. For many teens, we may suggest metal braces. However, with ceramic brackets we can ensure most of orthodontics are in fact tooth-colored and blend with the smile. We also have Invisalign® clear aligners, a series of clear plastic aligners that can shift the teeth into more optimal positions. They’re barely visible, and can be removed before meals or special occasions. If you have any questions about our treatment options for teens and kids, then please contact our team today to schedule a visit. We want to help your family enjoy their best possible smiles!
