When you think about orthodontics, you don’t usually think about esthetics. After all, braces are pretty visible. But did you know that your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist can provide a cosmetic approach to correcting misalignment? In today’s blog, we’re going to look the benefits of our tooth-colored brackets and clear acrylic aligners!
Ceramic Brackets
Braces are a very effective means of correcting minor and severe cases of misalignment. The process starts with the dentist examining your smile and assessing the severity of your misalignment. If braces are the right choice for you, then later brackets will be attached to the front-facing sides of your teeth. A band will be used to connect an arch wire to these brackets. During periodic visits to our office, we will adjust tension in the wire to begin moving the teeth into optimal positions. Now, these are usually very visible, which makes teens and adults hesitant to embrace them.
Fortunately, we can create the brackets from ceramic instead of metal. Ceramic is strong, and can be shaded to match the color of the teeth they’re attached to. In fact, dentists often use this material to create natural-looking crowns and veneers! Which means your metal orthodontics become significantly less visible.
Clear Aligners
For a nearly invisible option to correct uneven teeth, we could use Invisalign®. There are not brackets or wires at all. Instead, we take detailed digital images of your smile and use them to design a series of aligners. They will be crafted from a clear acrylic material. Not only do they fit comfortably, but they also provide a barely noticeable appearance, making this a popular option for our teen and adult patients. Treatment time is often shorter than the time required for metal orthodontics, and you can also remove them before meals or prior to brushing and flossing your smile!
Keeping Your Teeth Bright
During your treatment, you need to continue to care for your smile to avoid the onset of discoloration, tooth decay, and gum disease. Whether you wear braces or aligners, you need to keep brushing your teeth twice daily for two minutes, and also floss before bed. If you have braces, you will need to work around them. If you have aligners, simply take them out as you clean your teeth. If you have any questions about our cosmetic approach to treatment, then contact our team today.
