Using Advanced Technology To Propel Your Treatment

When we see teens and adults with misalignment, we may correct the alignment of the smile with clear acrylic aligners or even braces with ceramic brackets. But did you know that we also help accelerate the rate of treatment with the advanced Propel® system? In today’s blog, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist talks about the Propel® Accelerated Orthodontics system.

The Importance of Addressing Misalignment

Remember, correcting your alignment does improve the overall beauty of your smile, but that’s not the only reason to seek treatment. Over the long-term, a straighter smile has been shown to help protect the health of your smile too. For example, did you know that crooked and crowded teeth are difficult to floss and brush properly. As a result, you may not remove all trapped food particles and the risk of tooth decay and gum disease could increase. The pressure on your jaw joints and bite balance could also boost the chances of TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding).

Braces and Aligners

For children, we may recommend teeth spacers and retainers, but once our patients reach their teen and adult years, we usually recommend either metal braces or clear Invisalign® aligners. Each offers a very different approach to correcting misalignment. With braces, we place brackets onto the front-facing sides of the teeth. To limit visibility, we may create them from ceramic, shading them to match your teeth. We then connect an arch wire and adjust tension to correct smiles. With aligners, we create a series of clear and comfortable plastic aligners based on detailed digital impressions and images we’ve taken of your smile. A set is worn for 20 to 22 hours every day, with the patient moving on to the next in the series every two weeks.

The Propel® Accelerated System

With Invisalign®, adults see optimal results in about a year, and teens may take up to 18 months, on average. For those with metal braces, optimal results could take up to two years to obtain. However, with the Propel® Accelerated Orthodontics system, we can significantly shorten the amount of time need. We send patients home with a small device that they place into their mouths and wear for about 5 minutes a day. The device uses gentle vibrations to stimulate the growth of jawbone tissue, allowing the jaw to shift to the new positions to the teeth much faster and reducing the overall treatment time.
