Reducing Your Treatment Time With Propel®

propel accelerated orthodonticsHow long does obtaining an even smile take? Depending on various factors, such as age and severity of misalignment, an even smile could be between one and two years away. But what if your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist could reduce this timeframe with advanced technology? In today’s blog, we’re looking at the benefits of Propel® Accelerated Orthodontics.

Correcting Uneven Smiles

When your teeth are crooked, crowded, or overlapping one another, this impacts the esthetics of your smile and could be embarrassing. Misalignment also provides places for bits of food to become trapped, and could be difficult to remove even if you brush and floss, increasing the risk of tooth decay and gum disease. The pressure poor alignment places on the jaw joints and bite balance could also increase the risk of painful complications like TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding).
To correct your smile, we may use braces or aligners. With braces, we apply brackets to the front-facing sides of the teeth and connect arch wires to them with bands. We adjust tension in the wire to move the teeth into new positions. With aligners or retainers, we have custom-made appliances that are worn for 20 to 22 hours a day, gradually shifting the teeth into new positions, With aligners, patients move on to the next in the series every two weeks.

The Benefits of Propel®

For the teeth to stay in position, the jawbone must reform around them once we’ve moved them. Which means on average, braces take two years to see optimal results, and aligners take a year to 18 months. However, with Propel® Accelerated Orthodontics, we use a unique technology to stimulate the growth of jawbone tissue and allow it to reform around the new positions of the teeth and shorten the overall treatment time. We often send patients home with the Propel® VPro5 device, which is small and handheld. The device is worn in the mouth for about five minutes a day and uses gentle vibrations to stimulate the growth of bone and periodontal tissues. The mouthpiece is easy to clean and store as well!
