Creating Your Custom Invisalign® Aligners

With Invisalign®, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist helps correct misalignment by using a series of aligners that fit comfortably and offer a barely visible appearance. In order to create them and ensure treatment with precision and accuracy, we use advanced digital scanning technology. In today’s blog, we’re looking at how we create them with the iTero® system.

How Does Invisalign® Correct Smiles?

How does the Invisalign® system actually work? Well, patients wear a set of clear braces for between 20 and 22 hours each day. After about two weeks, they upgrade to the next in the series. Over a period of a year to 18 months on average, these appliances then begin to move the teeth into more optimal positions, improving overall alignment and in turn, boosting the health and beauty of the smile. This ensures treatment with accuracy and precision, and to improve overall esthetics, we custom-make the aligners specifically for your smile.

Creating Aligners with iTero®

The iTero® system involves using a tiny digital camera at the end of a thin wand to comfortably take a series of detailed photographs of your smile. We then combine these images to create a 3D model of your smile. The model allows our team to then design the appliances and plan the treatment process. No need for biting down on a mold filled with a sticky material, which often needed to be repeated until a satisfactory impression was taken. Instead, the process is short, and provides improved accuracy over more traditional methods. Along with creating Invisalign® aligners, we also use this system to design ceramic brackets for braces, and to create oral appliances to treat TMJ disorder.

Can I Remove Them?

Yes! Unlike metal braces, clear orthodontics can be removed. You take them out before meals, so no need to worry about food becoming caught in your orthodontics. You also take them out before you brush and floss, which makes caring for your smile throughout the treatment process a much simpler and more successful undertaking. As long as you wear them daily as the orthodontist prescribes, you can also take them out prior to special occasions, such as graduations, job interviews, or dates. If you have any questions about the process of creating the orthodontics with digital scanning technology, or if you would like to try them to address your minor or severe misalignment, then contact our team today.
