If you have uneven smiles and would like to correct this issue, you should contact your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist. For our teen and adult patients, we have a barely noticeable alternative to traditional metal braces known as Invisalign®. In today’s blog, let’s talk about how we correct uneven smiles with practically invisible acrylic aligners.
How Does Invisalign® Work?
Invisalign® is a unique orthodontic system in that it requires no metal wires or brackets. Instead, patients will wear a set of plastic aligners that fit over the teeth like a very thin and light mouthguard. Each set in a series is worn for 20 to 22 hours a day, with a new set being worn about once every two weeks. In about a year for adults and up to 18 months for teens, this helps reposition the teeth to correct overall misalignment for minor and severe cases!
The Benefits of Correcting Misalignment
The most obvious benefit is appearance. Since each set is made from clear acrylic, this means they’re nearly invisible when worn. For teens and adults, this makes them preferable over other options. They’re also comfortable, custom-made to fit well and also avoid the gum and cheek irritation often encountered with braces. Patients also have the ability to remove them prior to meals. No need to worry about food being trapped in braces, and you don’t need to avoid certain foods either. Being removable also means you can take them out when you brush and floss, which lowers the risk of teeth stains, tooth decays, and gum disease during treatment. Overall treatment time is also shorter, and you require fewer office visits!
Creating Custom Aligners
To ensure optimal fit and results, each one is custom-made specifically for your smile. We start by using the iTero® digital scanning system to gather a series of images using a small camera at the end of a thin wand. We combine the images to create a 3D computer model, allowing us to design the aligners with precision and accuracy. Each set is made for you, and you never need to bite down on a mold filled with sticky material, we’ve made the process digital to ensure better results and a more comfortable office experience.
