Right now, our office is closed outside of orthodontic emergencies. However, when we open we’ll be ready to help kids, teens, and adults in Fort Worth, TX, obtain even smiles. However, we often find our teen and adult patients worry about how braces will impact their appearance. Fortunately, we have an option to make them much less visible!
The Importance of Braces
We often use metal orthodontics, known commonly as braces, to address more severe cases of misalignment for teens and adults. When we correct misalignment, we help improve the health of your smile, lowering the long-term risks of issues like tooth decay, gum disease, TMJ disorder, and even bruxism (teeth grinding). This also helps improve the overall beauty of your smile too. The total amount of treatment time will depend on the cause and extent of misalignment, but usually falls to about two years.
Tooth-Colored Brackets
Treatment works like this: We attach brackets to the front-facing sides of the teeth. These are usually made from metal. We then attach an arch wire to them with a band. During periodic visits to our office, our team will adjust the tension in the wire to help move the teeth into optimal positions. With our Propel® Accelerated Orthodontic system, we can help stimulate the growth of jawbone tissue to reduce the amount of time people need to wear them.
Now, to make them less visible, we will create the brackets from ceramic instead of metal. Since ceramic is translucent like tooth enamel and able to be shaded to match the color of surrounding tooth structure, dentists often use this material to create crowns, inlays, and onlays, or to craft dental bridges or implant restorations. By using this material for our brackets, your braces are much less noticeable. To design and create them, we use advanced digital technology for accuracy and precision.
Caring for Your Smile
If you have orthodontics already, or even if you don’t, sheltering in place means you can’t see the dentist or orthodontist for routine care, so taking steps to protect your oral health from home is essential. Be sure you brush and floss daily, and take care to work around your orthodontics. Cut back on sticky and chewy snacks, and drink more water instead of sodas. If you have any questions about our treatment options, or about safeguarding your smile from home, then contact our team today.
