What should you do if your brackets or bands come loose or fall out? Should you let your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist know about your cracked aligner? In today’s blog, we’re looking at common orthodontic emergencies, and talking about when you should see our team for treatment. Don’t let these minor inconveniences lead to issues with your treatment progress!
Damaged Braces
When your braces are damaged, this could lead to discomfort, and could also impact your treatment process unless addressed quickly. If a band or bracket comes loose, you can use wax to hold them in place until we can see you. If they fall out completely, then please wrap them in tissue or place them in a small container and bring them with you when you visit our office. If a wire is loose, use the pencil end of an eraser to gently push the wire down and away from the gums and cheek to avoid injuries and discomfort.
Broken Aligners
If you have a clear Invisalign® aligner, or a retainer, that is broken or cracked, let us know. This could impact how they fit and slow your treatment process down. Our team can use digital technology to design and craft a replacement to help you continue your treatment. Don’t let a minor bit of damage impact your journey toward a healthier and more attractive smile, please contact our team today! If your orthodontics fit comfortably, or if your headgear causes issues, let us know. We can make sure they’re being used properly and if necessary, make adjustments to them.
Caring for Your Orthodontics
Without proper care at home, your teeth could become stained and more likely to develop cavities. The risk of gingivitis and gum disease could rise as well! Be sure you brush every surface of your teeth, as well as the wires and brackets of your braces. Be sure to bring the floss under the wires, so you can thoroughly clean between the teeth. If you have aligners, clean them with soap and water in the morning and again at night, and also soak them periodically to keep them clean and prevent bacteria. If you have any questions about correcting uneven smiles, or about how to care for your teeth while at home, then please contact our team today to learn more.
