Can Teens Wear Discreet Orthodontics?

When people think about orthodontics, they often picture unsightly metal braces. For this reason, many teens in Fort Worth, TX, feel hesitant to start treatment and correct their crooked and crowded smiles. Fortunately, we can offer discreet options, such as tooth-colored brackets and even clear aligners to provide a less noticeable treatment!

Treating Misalignment

Correcting misalignment allows our team to reposition the teeth, fixing crooked, crowded, or overlapping teeth. Not only does this improve smile esthetics, but correcting misalignment means a much easier time brushing and flossing each day, lowering the risk of everything from cavities to gum disease. You also avoid bite imbalance and jaw joint strain, which could otherwise increase the risk of TMJ disorder and bruxism, eventually leading to damaged teeth, headaches, and jaw pain. By treating your teen’s misalignment, we offer a healthier smile!

Ceramic Brackets

For more severe cases of uneven teeth, we may need to use metal braces. However, that doesn’t mean we can’t make them more discreet. With braces, a bracket is placed onto the front-facing sides of your teeth and an arch wire connects these brackets. We then adjust tension in the arch wire to begin moving the teeth. While brackets are usually made from metal, we can offer an alternative created from ceramic. Not only is this material durable, but it can be shaded to match the color of the teeth, blending with your smile and reducing the visibility of your child’s braces.

The Invisalign® System

We also have another option that is discreet: Invisalign®. With Invisalign®, we don’t use metal wires or ceramic brackets. Instead, we create a series of aligners, which fit over your teeth. Each set moves the teeth closer and closer to their optimal position, correcting misalignment as little as a year to 18 months on average. The aligners are made from clear acrylic, so they’re barely noticeable, and each one is custom-made based on detailed digital impressions we take using the iTero® system. Your teen can even remove them before meals, so no need to alter their diet to avoid certain foods. Being removable also means an easier time brushing and flossing, which reduces the risk of cavities, gum disease, and stained teeth.
