What Happens During Your First Visit?

Have you had enough of your crooked, crowded, or overlapping teeth? If you would like to seek treatment, then your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist could correct misalignment with clear aligners or ceramic brackets. But what should you expect from your initial visit? How do we choose the best possible treatment option?

The Initial Exam

The treatment process always starts with an exam. We will talk with you about your concerns and your goals for your smile. Next, we perform a detailed exam of your teeth, roots, gums, and oral structures. We will gather digital x-ray images, which use 90% less radiation and are available instantly chairside, and also gather images with digital scanning technology and digital impressions with the iTero® system. From there, we can assess the cause and extent of your misalignment, creating a personalized treatment plan to start you on the road toward a more even and healthy smile. These diagnostics systems also take only a few minutes to use!

Choosing Your Treatment Option

For children, we may recommend interceptive treatment, or phased orthodontics. These could include retainers, teeth spacers, and special aligners to help guide the growth of the smile until the time is right for more substantial treatment, usually once they begin to reach the teen years. For teens and adults, we could recommend metal braces, but braces that employ ceramic brackets to significantly reduce their appearance during treatment. We could also create Invisalign® aligners, which are worn daily and made from a clear and barely noticeable acrylic material. These options will gently and carefully correct misalignment. We could also employ Propel® technology, which hastens the rate at which the jawbone and gums adjust to the new position of the teeth, reducing the amount of time needed to wear orthodontics or aligners.

Caring for Your Smile During Treatment

During your treatment, we want to make sure your smile is healthy and free of common oral health issues, such as tooth decay, gum disease, and yes, even teeth stains. We will discuss how to care for your smile, what foods you may need to avoid, and recommend periodic visits so we can monitor your smile throughout the treatment process.
