Just because you have crooked or crowded teeth doesn’t mean that metal braces are the only choice for correcting your smile. For teens and adults in Fort Worth, TX, our team may be able to offer smile correction with a series of clear aligners. Learn how we create custom Invisalign® aligners in today’s blog.
Crafting Them With iTero® Digital Scanning
Treatment with Invisalign® means you wear a series of aligners that fit over the teeth. They will be made from a BPA-free acrylic material, and they’re also clear, making them less visible than braces or retainers. In order to ensure a comfortable fit and treatment with accuracy and precision, or team designs them in-office using advanced technology. You won’t need to bite down on a mold filled with sticky material. Instead, we take digital impressions by gathering a series of images with a small camera at the end of a thin wand. We combine the images to create a detailed 3D model of your smile, which is used to design your aligners.
Wearing Your Aligners
Once your aligners are ready, you will begin wearing a set for 20 to 22 hours a day. After about two weeks, you will upgrade to the next set. For adults, treatment usually takes about a year, while teens may require up to 18 months as their smiles are still growing and developing. You can remove them before meals or prior to brushing and flossing, and as long as you wear them as prescribed, you can take them out for special occasions as well. The aligners gradually and gently reposition your teeth to correct minor and severe cases of misalignment, helping you obtain a healthier and more attractive smile without impacting your professional appearance.
Crafting Splints and Appliances
We also employ digital scanning technology to create other orthodontic solutions. For example, we can use them to design retainers and other mouth pieces used in children’s orthodontics. If you have TMJ disorder, we can create a device that looks and acts much like a mouthguard. This custom oral appliance, also known as a splint, can ease pressure on the jaw joints to stop the uncomfortable symptoms related to TMJ disorder. If you have any questions about digital technology, or about the Invisalign® system, then please contact our team today. We would love to help you start a New Year on the road to a new smile!
