Invisalign® means we don’t need metal braces to help you obtain a straighter smile. We instead prescribe a series of aligners that are barely visible when worn. But how do we create them? In today’s blog, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist will look at how we create your Invisalign® braces and help people of all ages enjoy straighter, healthier smiles.
The iTero® Scanning System
In the past, the process involved biting down on a metal mold filled with a sticky material. Despite coming in flavors, this material never tastes good and often times, the process would need to repeated until an adequate impression was taken. Fortunately, we’ve gone digital. Using the iTero® system, we take a series of detailed digital images of your teeth, combining them to create a 3D model. The model enables our team to design and create the aligners, ensuring a comfortable fit and accurate treatment process. You don’t need sticky molds, and enjoy better results!
Wearing Your Orthodontics
Each set is made from a BPA-free and clear acrylic material. Patients begin wearing the first set for 20 to 22 hours per day, removing them only occasionally for brief periods. After about two weeks, they will be ready for the next set in the series. The process continues for about a year for adults and up to 28 months for teens. The aligners begin to reposition the teeth and correct misalignment, also while remaining practically invisible throughout the process.
What to Expect From Treatment
The aligners will fit comfortably and offer minimal discomfort, especially when compared to metal braces. They can be removed before meals, so you don’t need to alter your diet and avoid certain foods. You also have a much easier time brushing and flossing, as you simply take out your braces beforehand. The Invisalign® system also means fewer office visits and a shorter treatment time. However, to see optimal results in the timeframe you’ve discussed with your orthodontist, you need to take them out only briefly and wear them daily as prescribed. We will address any questions or concerns you have during the process. If you have any questions, then contact our team today. We can schedule a consultation to see if Invisalign® is the best choice for you or a member of your family. Remember, correcting misalignment is about more than just improving smile beauty, the process also improves overall oral health and reduces the risk of everything from cavities and gum disease to teeth grinding and TMJ disorder.
