Clear Aligners For Teens With Misalignment

The earlier we address poor alignment, the shorter the time required to wear orthodontics. Which means if your teen has misalignment, you should let your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist know. In today’s blog, we’re going to look at how we can correct poor alignment without metal braces, instead using a series of comfortable and barely visible aligners!

Addressing Misalignment Early

We can begin treatment for kids as young as age seven, using interceptive orthodontics such as retainers and teeth spacers to help manage misalignment and decrease the severity as they enter their teen years. We then begin treatment with orthodontics, such as braces or aligners, to completely correct misalignment. By addressing poor alignment, we limit the risk of tooth decay, gum disease, TMJ disorder, and bruxism in the adult years, offering healthier and more attractive smiles for your children.

The Invisalign® Treatment Process

With Invisalign®, we will correct uneven teeth using a series of aligners created from a clear plastic material. They will be barely visible when worn, and help address minor and advanced cases of misalignment. We begin by taking detailed impressions of the smile with advanced technology, including the iTero® digital scanning system. No need for sticky molds and old school dental impressions. We then craft the aligners and treatment begins. The patient will wear a set for between 20 and 22 hours each day. After two weeks, the next set in the series is worn and the process continues. While adults may see optimal results in a year, teens may need longer as their smiles are still growing and changing, and total treatment could take about 18 months.

Benefits for Teenage Patients

In addition to being practically invisible, the aligners can also be removed before meals. No more worries about food becoming trapped in the orthodontics or damaging them. Brushing and flossing is much easier as well, as you simply remove orthodontics before cleaning your teeth, lowering the risks of cavities and teeth stains during the treatment process. Teens also require fewer office visits than they would with braces, and the clear braces will fit comfortably and help prevent gum and cheek irritation, a common problem reported with traditional orthodontics.
