Reducing The Appearance Of Braces With Ceramic Brackets

When you wear braces, the appearance of your orthodontics is obvious. After all, how do you hide metal brackets and wires? Well, to limit the appearance for our teen and adult patients, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist may create brackets with a lifelike metal-free material. In today’s blog, we’re talking about reducing the appearance of braces with ceramic brackets.

Creating Tooth-Colored Brackets

These tooth-colored orthodontics will be made from ceramic, a strong material that can withstand serious pressure and bite forces. In fact, the same material is often used to create dental restorations, such as crowns or inlays and onlays. To craft them, we will use digital imaging technology, such as the iTero® system, to take detailed digital pictures of your teeth. We then use the images to design the brackets, shading them to match the color of your teeth.

The Treatment Process

Once we complete your brackets, we place them onto the front-facing side of your teeth. Next, we connect a metal arch wire to them. The orthodontist will then adjust the tension in the wire during periodic visits, repositioning the teeth. To shorten treatment time, we can also discuss the Propel® Accelerated Orthodontics system, a small device used for five minutes a day to stimulate the growth of jawbone tissue and gum tissue, securing your teeth in their new positions much quicker. The treatment time will depend on the extent of your misalignment, but usually falls between 18 months and 2 years. We will discuss how to care for your smile during treatment, and help you enjoy a comfortable treatment experience.

Long-Term Advantages of Orthodontic Care

Did you know that misalignment often makes thorough brushing and flossing difficult? For some, this means a greater risk of tooth decay and gum disease. Uneven teeth could also upset bite balance, leading to a greater risk of TMJ disorder and bruxism, two jaw joint disorders linked to headaches, pain in the face or jaw, and tooth sensitivity and toothaches. By correcting your alignment, you avoid serious complications and improve overall oral health. You also enjoy more attractive teeth, and will feel confident when you smile.
