How We Use Digital Imaging Tech To Create Your Aligners

If you have TMJ disorder, we may treat the disorder with a custom appliance. Correcting your uneven teeth could involve the use of a series of clear aligners. But how to do we create these appliances and ensure they fit comfortably and offer treatment with accuracy and precision? Find out how your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist uses digital technology to create orthodontics.

The iTero® Digital Scanning System

With iTero®, we employ a small digital camera at the end of a thin wand to take a series of detailed images of your teeth, gums, and oral structures. When we combine these images, we can create a 3D impression of your smile, once far more accurate than traditional impressions. In addition, you no longer have to bite down on molds filled with sticky material! The images provide greater accuracy and precision, and enable our team to design orthodontics and appliances that not only fit comfortably, but provide better treatment for a host of oral health complications.

With Invisalign®, we don’t need to use metal brackets and wires to correct misalignment. Instead, our team will use the digital impressions we take to design and craft a series of aligners from a BPA-free acrylic material. Worn each day between 20 and 22 hours, with a new set used every two weeks, your smile will be gradually corrected and improved over the course of about a year. No need for unsightly orthodontics, and you can enjoy a comfortable fit that spares you from the gum and cheek irritation often reported with metal braces.

If you do have misalignment severe enough that clear aligners may not be the best choice, we can again take steps to limit the appearance of your orthodontics. Using iTero® digital scanning and impressions, we can craft brackets made from ceramic instead of metal, which enables them to better blend with your smile and limit the visibility of your braces!

TMJ Appliances

TMJ disorder occurs when the bite balance is upset and pressure is placed on your jaw joints. Over time, this leads to headaches, jaw pain, and trouble fully opening and closing your mouth. In order to restore balance to your smile and ease strain in your jaw joints, we may create an oral appliance that looks and fits like a mouthguard. The custom-made device is worn a night and helps treat TMJ disorder and stop uncomfortable symptoms!
