Just because you need orthodontic treatment, doesn’t mean you need metal braces that stand out. Instead, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist may offer a more cosmetic alternative, with tooth-colored brackets and Invisalign®. In today’s blog, we’re going to answer four commonly asked questions about these options, and look at how correcting poor alignment can help your smile.
FAQs About Cosmetic Orthodontics
Question: How does Invisalign® work?
Answer: With Invisalign®, we use digital technology to create detailed 3D computer models of your smile, which we use to design and craft a series of aligners. The aligners will fit comfortably and be made from a clear acrylic material. A new set is worn every two weeks over a period of about a year, correcting misalignment without metal orthodontics at all. Many adults and teens prefer this option, as the aligners are practically invisible.
Question: Am I a good candidate?
Answer: In order to see if Invisalign® is a good choice for your smile, we will need to assess your candidacy, which mean assessing the cause and severity of your misalignment. Once we do this, we will be able to tell you if you benefit from the aligners. Typically, this option works best for adults and teens with minor misalignment, as braces are still the best choice for severe cases. Either way, we will be able to identify the optimal treatment option to correct your misalignment, helping you enjoy a more attractive smile and a lower risk of tooth decay, gum disease, TMJ disorder, or bruxism (teeth grinding).
Question: What are tooth-colored brackets?
Answer: With metal braces, we attach brackets to the front-facing sides of your teeth and connect them with a metal arch wire. We then adjust tension to begin repositioning the teeth. However, to reduce the appearance of the braces, we may create brackets from ceramic instead of metal. Ceramic is strong, durable, and can be shaded to match the color of the teeth, blending with them seamlessly. You then enjoy braces that are significantly less noticeable.
Question: Can you reduce the amount of time braces require?
Answer: Yes! With Propel® Accelerated Orthodontics, we provide patients with a small device that they use for about five minutes a day. The machine uses gentle vibrations to stimulate the growth of jawbone tissue, which reduces the amount of time for the jawbone to reform around repositioned teeth, and lessens the overall time needed to obtain a straighter smile.
