Creating Tooth-Colored Brackets For Your Braces

Metal braces address severe misalignment and for some, are the best possible choice to correct poor alignment and improve a smile’s health and beauty. However, often our teen and adult patients in Fort Worth, TX, worry about the appearance of metal braces. Fortunately, we can limit how visible they are with custom-made brackets created from lifelike ceramic.

How Do Braces Work?

Braces enable our team to correct minor and severe cases of misalignment. We begin by placing metal brackets onto the front facing sides of the teeth. We then connect these brackets with an arch wire, using bands to keep them in place. During periodic visits, the orthodontist will adjust the tension in the arch wire, which begins repositioning the teeth. The total treatment time depends on the extent of your misalignment, but typically takes around two years to see optimal results. You will need to watch what you eat, avoiding food that could become stuck in your orthodontics, and be sure you thoroughly brush and floss throughout the treatment process.

Ceramic Brackets

What if instead of metal, we attached brackets created using ceramic? With iTero® technology, our team can take detailed impressions and measurements of your teeth, which enable us to design and craft the brackets from ceramic. In addition to being strong and durable, ceramic is also stain resistant and can be shaded to match the color of surrounding tooth structure. Once we attach them, they blend with the tooth and the smile as well. We then attach the metal arch wire, which is incredibly thin. Your braces are less visible and you may feel less self-conscious about your appearance during the treatment period.

Tackling Your Misalignment

Remember, whether you have minor or more severe alignment issues, crooked or crowded teeth could impact your smile in negative ways. Poor alignment can enable food particles to remain trapped between teeth, even if you brush and floss. Bacteria will break down these particles, and in the process, increase the risk of tooth decay and gum disease. For some, the pressure of poor alignment on the jaw joints means a greater likelihood of TMJ disorder and bruxism, which could lead to trouble opening and closing your mouth, damaged or decayed teeth, headaches, jaw pain, and more.
