You probably know the basics about the Invisalign® system, such as the fact that this option employs clear aligners to help our Fort Worth, TX, residents enjoy straighter smiles. But how do we create these aligners, and what should you expect from the treatment process? In today’s blog, we’re going to take a detailed look at how we fabricate clear braces.
Examining Your Smile
First, we need to examine your smile. Using advanced technology, such as digital x-rays, CT scanning, and intraoral cameras, we will want to obtain a detailed look at your smile. After we assess the cause and extent of your misalignment, we can find the best option for correcting your smile. For children, this could mean interceptive orthodontics, for teens and adults, braces with ceramic brackets may be necessary. However, often we prescribe Invisalign® to correct the problem.
Once we decide that Invisalign® is the best choice, we need to create a series of aligners that fit comfortably and offer treatment with accuracy and precision. To do so, we will employ the iTero® system, which involves using a digital camera at the end of a wand to gather a series of detailed images and measurements of your smile. We use these materials to craft a 3D computer model and design your aligners. We then create them from a BPA-free acrylic material. When they’re ready, you can begin treatment!
The Treatment Process
The aligners will be clear, which makes them barely visible when worn. To obtain optimal results in the original timeframe you discussed with your orthodontist, you need to wear them for between 20 and 23 hours each day. After around two weeks, you will move on to the next set in the series. The total treatment time varies based on the extent of your misalignment, but often final results are available after a year for adults, and 18 months for teens. For added convenience, they can be removed before you eat, brush, and floss, which makes meals and smile care much easier and promotes better oral health throughout the treatment process. You also enjoy fewer office visits and a shorter overall treatment time when compared to metal braces.
