What Benefits Will iTero® Digital Imaging Offer?

In order to ensure our Fort Worth, TX, patients enjoy optimal oral health and more even smiles, we offer a variety of orthodontic treatments. But how do we ensure your appliances, retainers, and braces fit comfortably and offer smile correction with precision and accuracy? To do so, we recommend iTero® digital imaging technology.

Creating Digital Images

With digital scanning technology, we now have an alternative to traditional dental impressions. You may had to endure the old method in the past, which involved biting down on a metal mold filled with a sticky material. You then had to hold this bite for a few minutes and hope it turned out well, otherwise you had to do it again. The process was frustrating for all parties involve. Now, we don’t need molds or sticky goo. Instead, we take a series of digital images from a specialized camera at the end of a small wand. We upload the images into a computer and use them to create a 3D model of your smile, offering a chance to see your teeth and gums in incredible detail.

Diagnosing Your Smile

We often use the system to provide a detailed diagnosis. We can identify the cause and assess the extent of your misalignment, which helps us plan your treatment with greater accuracy. We can find out what orthodontics or appliances will best address your smile, and assist you on the road toward a more even and healthy smile. We then walk you through the diagnostic process to help you gain a better understanding of your oral health and the treatments we may recommend.

Creating Your Aligners and Appliances

With a detailed 3D model, we can also design your orthodontics. For example, those with TMD, a jaw joint disorder responsible for painful headaches, jaw pain, and even difficulty opening and closing the mouth, could be addressed with a comfortable oral appliance worn at night. We use iTero® to design such an appliance, repositioning your jaw to improve bite balance and ease pressure on the jaw joints. If we recommend Invisalign® to correct misalignment, we may create a series of aligners from a BPA-free acrylic material. Clear and barely visible, these aligners help reposition the teeth to correct misalignment. Digital scanning technology also aids in the creation of retainers and other appliances as well.
