Teen’s Orthodontic FAQs

Teen's Orthodontic FAQsOrthodontic treatment is appropriate for everyone who needs a smile adjustment no matter their age. Teenagers, though, are a very common age group for orthodontic treatment. The questions that a teenager or a parent of a teenager may ask to an orthodontist might be a little different than a question an adult would ask about treatment. Today, we have gathered up some of the questions most frequently asked by teenagers regarding orthodontics. If you have a question, please reach out to Lake Country Orthodontics in Fort Worth, TX, as we would be happy to try to answer it.

Q: How Long Is My Treatment?

Every person’s orthodontic journey is unique. The type of treatment, the outcome, and the length of treatment can vary by person to person. When creating your treatment plan, your orthodontist will discuss the approximate length of treatment with you. At your check-ins and appointments along the way, you can get a more clear approximation until eventually an end date can be decided. In some cases, like Invisalign treatment, your own actions will play into the actual treatment length.

Q: Can I Still Play Sports?

Again, each person’s journey is different. Your orthodontist may recommend a special mouth guard or face mask to be worn. The recommendation will be based on your type of treatment and the sport you will be playing.

Q: Do I Have To Eat Special Food?

If you are wearing traditional metal bracket braces, there may be some foods that you will need to avoid while you are wearing them. If you are undergoing Invisalign treatment, you can remove the aligners to eat, which means no changes need to happen to your eating habits (except that you will need to remember to put the aligners back into your mouth!).
