The Galleria Dallas, not too far of a drive from Fort Worth, Texas, currently has thousands of paper butterflies on display. The paper butterflies were folded by volunteers for a local non-profit organization, Paper for Water. The organization was created by 11 and 14-year-old sisters, Isabella and Katherine Adam six years ago. The girls learned that children of third world countries often did not get to go to school because they were hauling water, and that every 15 seconds of every day, a child died from unclean water.
The project began when the Adam’s sisters starting creating Christmas ornaments in exchange for donations to raise $500 to build a water well in Ethiopia. Eventually, the project grew into Paper For Water, which has raised more than $1.5 million and funded over 150 water efforts in fourteen countries. Galleria Dallas and MoWax Visual partnered with Paper for Water to create the large scale installation of over 4,000 paper butterflies over the ice rink. The display was set to come down on July 30th, but due to the success, it has been extended until August 17, 2018. There are volunteer opportunities to help take down the installation and to fold more origami. The information for the installation take-down volunteer opportunity are as follows:
