Summer May Be A Good Time For Braces

Summer May Be A Good Time For BracesSummer can be a great time to explore orthodontics for your child or teens. When school is out, schedules tend to lighten up a little, which can be helpful for planning. It can be a convenient time to begin orthodontic treatment. Summer is usually free of the battles against a busy schedule with homework and extracurricular activities. Getting a consultation for your child’s smile does not mean that treatment is inevitable, but a plan can be created.

School’s Out!

As stated above, end of school usually means fewer extracurricular activities, such as academic meetings and sporting events. This allows for a more open schedule for both you and your children to schedule appointments with less juggling of events. If braces or Invisalign are determined to be the best course of action, the first visits will involve getting a good fit. When fall returns and it’s back to school time, the routine check-ups can slip into the daily schedule.

Adjusting Before Back to School Time

Advanced orthodontic technology has minimized most of the physical discomfort of getting braces, but young gums and growing teeth can still feel a bit tender early on in treatment. While not necessarily steep, there is a bit of a learning curve that comes with treatment, such as getting used to eating with them on and learning appropriate cleaning techniques. Adjusting to a new routine can be easy during the summer because it isn’t necessarily stacked with school and other activities. By the time school is back in session, your child can have become used to living with whatever form of orthodontic treatment is best for them. They will be able to return the school with confidence in their new routine. Orthodontic treatment can be made convenient at any time of the year, but if you and your family have been considering it – summer is a good time to make it happen!
