Q&A: Do I Qualify for Cosmetic Orthodontics?

While braces are essential for correcting many types of misalignment, a few of our patients worry about the affect they will have on their appearance. To address these concerns we offer a variety of cosmetic orthodontics. Are you wondering, “Do I qualify for cosmetic orthodontics?” If so, then take a look at a few frequently asked questions below.

Common Questions About Cosmetic Orthodontics

Question: Who qualifies for cosmetic orthodontics?

Answer: We recommend orthodontics for patients who have misalignment such as crooked or crowded teeth. We use treatment to reposition the teeth and correct the alignment issues. Not only does this improve appearance, but oral health as well, reducing the risk of tooth decay, gum disease, TMJ disorder, and bruxism.

Question: What are tooth colored brackets?

Answer: Typically, metal brackets are placed on the front of the teeth to hold the arch wires in place. Tension is then used as the doctor adjusts the wire to move the teeth to a more optimal setting. For braces that are less noticeable, we can place ceramic brackets that blend with the teeth.

Question: How does the Invisalign system work?

Answer: With Invisalign, we use clear plastic aligners instead of brackets and wires. The patient wears the aligners daily and over a period of a year to 18 months, enjoy a more even smile. Many teens and adults prefer this treatment option as the aligners are practically invisible. They can also be removed prior to meals or when brushing and flossing the teeth.

Question: Can anyone receive Invisalign?

Answer: We recommend this option for patients over the age of 15 who have minor alignment issues. Of course, we will perform a thorough examination to decide which orthodontic treatment will best address misalignment. If you have any questions, we invite you to contact our office today.
