Many parents often wonder if children need orthodontic care. Are braces meant mainly for young adults and adults? In reality, seeking care at a young age can have a number of benefits. At Lake Country Orthodontics, we can help your little one enjoy an even, beautiful smile with children’s orthodontics.
Frequently Asked Questions About Children’s Orthodontics
Question: How soon will a child need orthodontic care?
Answer: The American Association of Orthodontists recommends an exam as early as age seven. We agree, and can perform an exam to make sure the teeth are erupting properly and the child is free of misalignment. If we find evidence of developing alignment issues, we can create a personalized treatment plan.
Question: What are the benefits of addressing misalignment?
Answer: By starting treatment early, you can limit the amount of time your child will need to wear braces when he/she grows older. Benefits of strengthening teeth include better oral hygiene, as brushing and flossing become easier. This reduces the risk of developing gingivitis or tooth decay. A smile free of malocclusion also decreases the chances of developing TMJ disorder, bruxism (teeth grinding), and can improve overall quality of life.
Question: Do you offer clear braces?
Answer: We do. Invisalign is recommended for teen patients and can straighten teeth using a series of clear plastic aligners. For this reason, many young adults prefer clear braces to traditional metal brackets and wires.
Question: What are tooth-colored brackets?
Answer: For teens and kids who need braces, we may be able to place tooth-colored brackets. The resulting braces will be less visible. Many kids feel more comfortable wearing braces held in place with tooth-colored brackets. If you have any questions or would like to schedule a visit for your child, contact our office today.
