Invisalign braces are often the clear choice for adult orthodontic patients. Now Invisalign Teen is making clear braces an option for image-conscious teens.
How Invisalign is Different
Unlike the application of traditional metal braces, Invisalign treatment has the patient wear a series of custom-designed aligners, or smooth, comfortable, removable plastic trays. The patient switches aligners about every two weeks as the teeth move gradually into the desired position.
Dr. Cabal likes to see his Invisalign patients about every six weeks – less frequently than is necessary with traditional braces. These assessment visits allow the Lake Worth orthodontist to make sure treatment is on track. He’ll evaluate the shifting of teeth and modify treatment, if necessary.
Parents, don’t worry about the less-than-responsible habits of your teen. To accommodate teens, who are likely to lose removable dental devices such as retainers and aligners, Invisalign Teen offers free replacement of up to six aligners during the course of treatment.
Dental Hygiene for Clear Braces
With traditional braces, good dental hygiene can be a challenge. Food can get trapped in the brackets and wires, sometimes leading to plaque buildup and tooth decay. With Invisalign, the patient simply removes the aligners and brushes and flosses as normal.
Invisalign Advantages
With regular braces, you may experience discomfort, mouth sores caused by the brace wires, plaque buildup, tooth discoloration, and soreness after adjustment appointments. You may find that you have to give up some of your favorite foods, such as popcorn, hard-crusted bread, nuts, hard or chewy candies, and even corn on the cob. None of this is true with Invisalign!
Some patients, after traditional brackets are removed, experience unsightly stains around white tooth enamel that was protected beneath the brackets. This, too, is not an issue with Invisalign Teen.
And, Invisailgn is removable. If you have a special occasion coming up, you can remove your aligner for a while and pop it back in afterward. Keep in mind that you’ll get the best results from your Invisalign treatment if you wear your aligner at least 22 hours per day. Even when you’re wearing your aligner, most people won’t notice since it’s nearly invisible!
