Your Consultation
During your first appointment with Dr. Ciro Cabal, he will review your records and digital X-rays to determine the present condition of your bite and tooth alignment. From there, your Lake Worth dentist will take molds of your teeth and set up an appointment to fit your chosen orthodontic appliance.
Braces
Traditional orthodontic braces repair malocclusion and misaligned teeth. Malocclusion refers to a lack of harmony between the upper and lower arches of the teeth. It’s also referred to as a bad bite. Malocclusion is a serious dental condition that can lead to broken teeth and chronic pain of the joints that attach your jaw to your skull (TMJs). Braces also improve the alignment of your teeth.
Braces accomplish their task through the use of brackets and wire. The brackets are bonded to the tooth surface, and the wire connects each bracket. The force created between the brackets and wire moves the teeth into place. It usually takes about an hour for Dr. Cabal to fit your new braces. You will need to return to the office every month for minor adjustments. Treatment with braces generally lasts two years, but can vary depending on the individual.
Invisalign
Misaligned teeth are a cosmetic issue that often goes hand-in-hand with malocclusion, which is why traditional braces are such an effective treatment method. Braces can repair both of those conditions at the same time. However, some patients may suffer from just misaligned teeth, and in that case, a strictly cosmetic treatment might be more preferable.
Invisalign aligner trays are a cosmetic orthodontic treatment consisting of a series of clear trays that a patient wears all the time, except when they eat or clean their teeth. Your Lake Worth dentist will work in concert with the Invisalign lab to craft a series of trays for you to use during the course of your treatment. Each tray is formed to slowly move your teeth into alignment.
You will use each tray for about two weeks before switching to the next tray in the series. Dr. Cabal will see you every six weeks for an exam, but no adjustments are required with Invisalign. Treatment with Invisalign can last between 9 to 18 months.
