Have you been thinking about orthodontic treatment or do you have a child in need of orthodontics? The pursuit of achieving a straight smile which exudes confidence and cosmetic appeal can be daunting. While many people focus on the cosmetic benefits of orthodontic treatment, few are aware that beautiful, straight smiles are actually healthier smiles too. Lake Worth orthodontist, Dr. Cabal will explain how straighter teeth are easier to maintain.
Easier Oral Hygiene
Overcrowded or crooked teeth are more than just a cosmetic issue, when teeth are too close together, they make oral hygiene a chore. Food particles, plaque, and bacteria have an easier time hiding behind crooked or overcrowded smiles than straight teeth. This can create vulnerability towards tooth decay and even gum disease without proper dental care. Straightened smiles are easier to maintain with brushing and flossing, (more…)
Botox injections are widely known as a cosmetic procedure that can reduce wrinkles. The neurotoxic protein has also been used to provide relief in a host of health conditions, such as uncontrolled blinking, excessive sweating, chronic migraines, and even depression. In recent years, Botox has made a mark in the dental industry as a potential non-surgical procedure to help patients suffering from TMJ disorder. Ft. Worth orthodontist, Dr. Ciro Cabal, discusses how Botox injections can help relieve some of the symptoms of TMD.
What Is TMD?
The temporomandibular joints hold the lower jaw to the skull. If the joints are not properly seated, immense stress is put on the nerves and muscles that surround your jaw. This is called TMJ disorder (TMD), and it can be extremely uncomfortable, leading to headaches, toothaches, limited range of motion in the jaw, grinding of the teeth, and a host of other unpleasant symptoms. One classic (more…)
The good news for braces wearers concerned about their oral health is that the brackets and wires do not cause cavities. Unfortunately, they do tend to hold on to copious food particles, thereby dramatically increases the risk of contracting tooth decay if your oral hygiene is not on point. After the financial commitment and discomfort that sometimes come along with orthodontic treatments, the last thing you want is to cause excessive infection and damage, possibly even losing teeth. Ft. Worth orthodontist, Dr. Ciro Cabal, will offer pointers for keeping teeth in good shape, even when they are covered with braces.
Brush and Floss with Patience
The obvious star of the oral hygiene show remains the same whether you have braces or not. Brushing your teeth is essential, and more so than ever (more…)
Braces seem to have burst into popularity in the 1990s. During this period the pre-teen and teenager without braces was fast becoming the anomaly. Braces are still popular today but braces can make caring for your teeth a bit more difficult. If you don’t brush properly, your teeth can become discolored, you can form cavities, and/or your gum tissue can become swollen and infected. In today’s blog, your Forth Worth orthodontist, Dr. Cabal, discusses the importance of proper brushing with braces.

If you are a dog lover, Keenum-Shelton is your place. There, your dog can run wild as the park is leash-free. The park is set up to allow your best friend to play with other dogs his/her own size.
Navajo and Grand Lake Parks
If you are looking for parks with wonderful picnic opportunities, Navajo and Grand Lake Parks will meet your needs. The parks are both equipped with grills, picnic tables, and playgrounds. They also have basketball courts if you want to work off some of the hamburgers and potato salad that you brought with you.
Lake Worth Veterans Memorial Park
The newest addition to the community’s numerous parks, Lake Worth Veterans Park was dedicated in 2013. There is a wonderful memorial there to honor those who have served our country and our community.
What a history Rayl Park has! When Bill and Evia Rayl moved to 7409 Apache Trail in 1941, they discovered that there were between 20 and 30 shortwave radios hidden in an upstairs room. As this was during World War II, rumors continue to this day that the house was home to a nest of German spies.
Now it is a place with incredible trees, a picnic table, and a pond where many aquatic species and animals can be discovered.

Flossing may have caught on in the 1980s but the idea has been in existence since ancient times. Floss and toothpick grooves have been discovered in the teeth of prehistoric humans. Even so, it wasn’t until 1815 that the first form of dental floss was invented. The credit is given to Levi Spear Parmly who suggested his patients use thin silk thread to clean between their teeth. It wasn’t until 1882, however, that the first commercial dental floss was developed and mass produced by the Codman and Shurtleft Company located in Massachusetts. Today, your Forth Worth orthodontist, Dr. Cabal, discusses the importance of flossing.
It’s a well-known fact that vitamin D is good for strong bones, and it is also good for your overall health. It was discovered that vitamin D was good for bones when it helped prevent rickets (a bone disease causing imperfect calcification, softening, and distortion of the bones) in children. Vitamin D also contributes to the workings of your brain, heart, lungs, and muscles, and helps your body fight infection. Recent research indicates that it may be key in the prevention and treatment of other chronic health issues, including childhood caries (cavities). If you are interested in the link between vitamin D and caries, contact your Forth Worth orthodontist, Dr. Cabal, he can explain the importance vitamin D holds in maintaining your dental health.
